Yi Ti of the East
Fire & BloodYi Ti of the East appears in the account of Corlys Velaryon’s voyages as a destination reached by sea beyond the Jade Gates. His journey there aboard the Sea Snake marked a step beyond the routes traders from Oldtown and the Arbor had taken to Qarth, and its rich return transformed the fortunes of House Velaryon.
Place in the Eastern Voyage
Traders from Oldtown and the Arbor commonly sailed as far as Qarth in search of spice, silk, and other treasures. Corlys went farther: aboard the Sea Snake, the ship he had designed and built, he passed through the Jade Gates to Yi Ti and the isle of Leng. The account identifies Yi Ti as part of this route but gives no further description of the land or its people.
The Voyage’s Consequences
The expedition returned with such a rich load of silk and spice that it doubled House Velaryon’s wealth in a stroke. Yi Ti is thus associated with the reach of Corlys’s maritime ambition and with the commercial reward that helped make his house richer. The evidence presents the significance of the destination through the voyage and its cargo, rather than through details of Yi Ti itself.
